Freestyle weekend

Freestyle weekend

My first freestyle weekend in Czech republic was so nice and interest.

On Saturday I won woman category in King of the wave in aquapark. In the end it was flat

water freestyle, because the motors, which make up the waves was broken. But we spent whole

day in many swithchbacks and whirpool.

Tournon first french cup round

Last 20th and 21st of March has taken place the FKT first round (France championship): 150 competitors gathered at Tournon Saint Martin white water stadium. The weather was good, very sunny and the water was perfect with retentive and  powerfull hall very pleasant to ride. This first competition was the occasion for many mates to meet again after a long winter riding separately.

Friday night: After a few beers and many long chats, everybody went to bed to be ready and fit for the Saturday.

Saturday: Qualification in the afternoon and semi-final in the evening… by night! Everything would have been ok if I hadn’t finished 6th and missed the final so closely.

Sunday: Racing with an open canoe, I’ve managed to turn the table on as I’ve finished 2nd in the final. As an information regarding the mates of the club: Rodolphe has finished 4th in C1 and Arthur 2nd in K1 but also 1st in C1 junior.

Bala Prem…RaCe 1

The racing season kicked of like normal in Bala, Wales. Coming of the back of the Athens i was really on a high but Bala is one of my most hated sites! It’s brutally shallow and over the years i’ve never raced well here. In fact i think my best result here was 4th !! and that’s not were i’m at. But staying optimistic i had a good days training the day before the race and was quite looking forward to it.

I finished 2nd which i was quite happy with. I had 2 very average runs with nothing really good to say about them, they were just ok but none the less it’s a 2nd place on a river i’ve never done that well in before so i’m happy with it.

Back to training now for another 4 weeks before the racing kicks off in Scotland!

Athens…

Athens…

I’ve been waiting for this trip for ages! Athens is a wicked place and is probably in my top 3 courses i’ve paddled. It was the venue for the 2004 Olympic games which makes it extra special. I remember watching on the tele one of the best battles between Tony and Martikan  which the big man won in thee end and also fellow Scot Campbell Walsh winning silver which was quality!! Everything about this course makes me smile, well apart from the salt water that is. :)

My camp did kick off on a bit of a low note.  We got to the airport to fly out to Athens and the airline refused to take our boats. Not only that they wouldn’t fly them out without us being there to check them in which ment we missed 3 days of the trip!! After lots of shouting and swearing and angry hand gestures i settled down and just accepted it to be just one of those things. I must have been a bad in my past life!

Last night in Athens

Anyway once I got out there everything was perrrrfect. It was a really focused camp and the main aim of the camp was to fine tune my technical skills on bigger water but also look at my full run quality. Both by the end of the camp were very good. It was also good to see the other Duem team riders out there and i was very impressed. Benjamin and Simon looked very sharp and at a high level for this time of year.I hope they carry on the good work and hope to see them both on the team at the Europeans in Bratislava.

I left Athens feeling good and looking forward to the weekend were the British racing season kicks off in Bala, Wales….

see you soon

Prague Camp

Well My Trip to Prague went….hmmm a little wrong!IT WAS BLOODY FREEZING!!!:)

But all in all apart from freezing my balls off  it was a good trip and i got a lot of work done even in the -15 degree temperatures.
Prague is on of my Favorite course and despite not being able to move many gates, i got a good amount of quality work done on the course.Another thing i love about Prague is the city, It’s awesome! Full of life all year round and the food is great too. In Britain you’d pay 30 euro for a steak you get here for 10 euro here. As we’d say in Scotland ” Canny beat it man”.
One of the good things about the Czech Rep is that there are lots of slalom sites. So for more technical work i traveled up the road to a site in Roudnice to work on more specific  tech work (2 hour sessions, mostly on short stuff or basin work).I hadn’t been to Roudnice since my first canoeing trip back in 2000 so i was buzzing to see if it was how i remembered it……and it was still mother f**king gooooood!
After the boat sessions were done an dusted me and my coach did some Skiing and Snowboarding to finish of the days which was wicked.I’ve never really done much snow sports but i loved snowboarding and i think next winter i plan on going away for a few weeks to get good.
Anyway it was a really good camp and i’m pleased at how may paddling is going!:)
